Low-Maintenance Gardens Design

A garden that gives back far more weekend than it asks for.

Low maintenance is not no garden — it is a garden designed so the work disappears. FloraStone Studio composes planting plans built around tough, climate-adapted plants, grouped by their needs and detailed so the beds mature into the design and quietly take care of themselves.

Every plan is presented in photorealistic 3D with detailed plant selections, so you can see how the garden holds its structure across all four seasons — and picture the Saturdays you get back — before a single plant goes in the ground.

Engineered for less upkeep

We choose plants that earn their place — drought-tolerant once established, slow to outgrow their spot, and undemanding of pruning. Grouping by water and light needs, generous mulched beds, and the right plant spacing all reduce the weeding, watering, and trimming a garden asks of you.

Still rich through every season

Low effort should not mean low interest. We layer evergreens for winter structure with perennials and grasses that carry color and movement through the growing season, so the garden reads as full and intentional year-round rather than sparse and tidy.

What we design in

  • Drought-tolerant, slow-growing plant palettes
  • Plants grouped by water and light needs
  • Mulch and spacing strategies that suppress weeds
  • Four-season structure with minimal pruning
  • Detailed planting plans and selections

Brands we use

For low-maintenance and climate-adapted plantings, these are the growers we love to design around.

  • One Green World — Plants & plantings. A Portland-area nursery whose deep catalog of natives, edibles, and unusual perennials gives our planting plans real range and regional character.
  • Sester Farms — Plants & plantings. An Oregon wholesale grower of healthy, climate-ready trees and shrubs — the kind of well-rooted stock our planting designs are built around.
